hot spring
Souce-of-spring, high-tension natural hot spring
The hot spring at Kairi Murakami is an ultra-concentrated hot spring that is approximately 17 times the standard value for being considered a hot spring (i.e., 1 g of active ingredients per 1,000 g), and is a natural hot spring that turns golden brown when exposed to air. The gushing temperature of the self-heating spring on the premises is 69.2 degrees Celsius. The temperature is adjusted to around 42 degrees Celsius, which is suitable for bathing, by simply adjusting the amount of water supplied without adding water. For first-time visitors, please take care not to strain your body by taking a short bath.
Yumoto Onsen is a valuable hot spring for beautiful skin that has high bactericidal and moisturizing power, and exfoliates the skin while keeping it moist. The source has been passed down from generation to generation by the “Y umori ” ( guardian of the hot spring ) who manages the hot spring.
Here at Iki Retreat, each and every staff member tirelessly manages the hot spring as a yumori- or onsen sommelier.

History
The history of this hot spring is very old, and it is said to have gushed out about 1,700 years ago. The “Iki Province Shoku-fudoki” states that Empress Jingu stopped by the hot spring on her way back from a military expedition to Sanhan, and found it gushing out naturally. Legend has it that Empress Jingu had Emperor Ojin use the hot spring to heal her after childbirth, and the hot spring is popularly known as a fertility hot spring. In the Edo period (1603-1867), during the reign of Tokugawa Ieyasu, Yakushi Nyorai was invoked as a guardian deity, and during the reign of Iemitsu, the temple was called “Onsensan Iioin” (Onsen Mountain Iioin), which prospered as a medical clinic. On March 23, 1971, the area was designated as a national recreational hot spring resort by Notification No. 55 of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Among the National Recreational Hot Spring Areas, hot spring areas with conditions that can be expected to promote the healthful use of hot springs with the cooperation of physicians are designated as “National Health Hot Spring Areas” by the Minister of the Environment. In Kyushu, only this onsen, Yunotsuru Onsen in Kumamoto Prefecture, and Yufuin Onsen (Yufuin Onsen, Yudaira Onsen, and Tsukahara Onsen) in Oita Prefecture have been designated as National Health Hot Springs.

The cationic component of the hot spring is rich in magnesium and calcium ions in addition to sodium ions, which are the main component of the hot spring, and has a calming effect that reduces cramps and inflammation. Lithium ions, which are seven times higher than the standard value for hot springs, are also said to have a calming effect and promote cell activation (relieve fatigue). In addition to chlorine ions, which are the main anionic component, bicarbonate ions (the main component of bicarbonate earth springs, also known as sodium bicarbonate springs. It makes your skin smooth) and meta-boric acid (more than three times the standard value), both of which dissolve sebum and make you feel refreshed after taking a bath.
